Hand-stippled design of a Scarlet Tanager (Piranga olivacea). Scarlet tanagers are a strikingly beautiful passerine in the cardinal family. While fairly common throughout the Eastern United States, these birds can be tricky to spot as they like to stay high up in forest canopies and move very quickly. Males are bright red with pitch black wings, while females have a more diluted yellow-green coloration.
